Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that manager Vincent Kompany is in a stable condition in hospital but could be away from his duties for several weeks following his collapse at the club’s training ground.
According to a report by Metro on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the 40-year-old Belgian was taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing during a training session with Bayern Munich’s Under-23 side.
Kompany had been recovering from a viral infection that forced him to miss training ahead of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal on Wednesday. However, he returned to the touchline for the encounter, which ended in a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Eberl disclosed that Kompany was undergoing further medical examinations, as doctors had yet to determine the exact cause of his collapse.
“The good news is that he is stable,” Eberl said.
He added that the manager would remain in hospital for several more days while medical personnel carried out additional tests.
“The examinations are ongoing, and they have obtained some results, but further tests are needed to establish exactly what is wrong. Only then can they determine the appropriate treatment,” Eberl stated.
The Bayern Munich director emphasised that Kompany’s health remained the club’s primary concern, urging everyone to give him the necessary time to recover.
“We’re sending Vini our best wishes for a speedy recovery from all of us. We, as Bayern Munich, stand together during a moment like this, because the most important thing is to identify the cause of what happened to Vinnie, ensure that he gets healthy, and give him the time he needs to recover in peace,” he said.
Eberl also revealed that Kompany had experienced minor health issues the previous week. According to him, the club’s coaching staff had already advised the manager to stay away from work for two days before the Arsenal match because of the viral infection.
Kompany subsequently felt well enough to resume his responsibilities and returned to the touchline for the Champions League fixture.
However, Eberl suggested that the manager’s determination to continue working might have led him to push himself beyond his limits. He added that the club would take greater care to protect Kompany while he recovered.
Bayern Munich have declined to provide a definite date for his return, with Eberl indicating that his absence could last several weeks rather than just a few days.
In the meantime, assistant coach Aaron Danks is expected to take charge of the team as the German champions continue their campaign.
