Flamengo have broken their silence over allegations linking midfielder Jorginho to a possible doping case, insisting that the club has received no official notification of an anti-doping violation involving the player.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the controversy emerged after Brazilian journalist Thiago Asmar claimed that the 34-year-old midfielder’s initial sample had returned an adverse result.
A second analysis is reportedly scheduled for October 27, although no anti-doping violation has been officially established.
Flamengo have maintained that they are unaware of any investigation involving the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder.
Radio Globo journalist Renan Moura also reported that the Brazilian club had received no communication about the alleged incident and was unaware of any planned second test.
Despite the speculation, Jorginho featured against Estudiantes at the Maracanã, even as reports surrounding the alleged doping issue continued to circulate.
Moura further explained that representatives of CONMEBOL had not confirmed the situation. Anti-doping procedures are generally confidential, meaning the governing body may be unable to publicly discuss whether an individual player is under investigation.
If a violation is eventually established, Jorginho could face disciplinary consequences. Reports have suggested that a suspension lasting between six months and two years could be possible, depending on the circumstances.
However, no punishment can be assumed at this stage because the testing process has not been completed and the relevant authorities have yet to announce any findings.
The controversy comes during a difficult period for Flamengo, who recently suffered elimination from the Copa Libertadores after losing to Estudiantes in a penalty shootout.
Jorginho missed his penalty during the decisive shootout, while former West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá also experienced disappointment after failing to convert his attempt.
Flamengo have subsequently challenged Estudiantes’ participation in the tie, lodging an appeal over defender Marcos Rojo’s eligibility.
The Brazilian club argue that the former Manchester United defender had not completed the necessary CONMEBOL registration requirements and should therefore not have been allowed to play.
For now, Flamengo remain firm that they have received no official communication concerning Jorginho’s alleged anti-doping case.
The reported second analysis on October 27 could provide further clarity, but until the relevant authorities confirm the findings, the allegations against the midfielder remain unverified.
