According to a report by FootballTransfers, on Saturday October 24, 2026, Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Como midfielder Nico Paz as a potential long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes, whose future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
Speculation has intensified following United’s 4–1 Champions League defeat to Como.
Fernandes appeared to criticise Michael Carrick’s tactics after the match, while talks over the captain’s contract have yet to resolve questions about his future. Paz, 22, impressed against United, scoring twice and setting up another goal.
UEFA technical observer Roberto Martínez praised the Argentine’s display, comparing his influence to Diego Maradona’s and highlighting his control, balance and precision.
According to transfer reporter Nicolò Schira, United are among the clubs tracking Paz.
Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with the playmaker, but Como are keen to keep him. Real Madrid could complicate the race: they reportedly have an €80 million buy-back option in his contract.
Madrid’s clause does not guarantee Paz a clear path into the first team. He has mainly played as a No. 10, a position occupied by Jude Bellingham. Other roles may be difficult to secure, with Kylian Mbappé and new signing Yan Diomande among the competition for attacking places.
United, by contrast, may have more room to offer Paz regular minutes, particularly if Fernandes leaves. That opportunity could make Old Trafford an appealing destination for a player approaching his prime.
