According to a report by The BBC on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Chelsea Women have returned to the top of the Women's Super League after a thumping win over bottom side Charlton at The Valley.
The Blues scored four goals in the first 19 minutes, leaving Karen Hills' side stunned. Nathalie Bjorn opened the scoring after three minutes with a looping header from Katie McCabe's cross.
Melvine Malard added the second when Charlton goalkeeper Anna Koivunen fumbled the ball into her own net.
Lauren James' shot from the edge of the box was parried by Koivunen, and Ellie Carpenter was first to react to score her second goal in as many games.
Malard then poked home the fourth. She thought she had completed a hat-trick, but the goal was ruled out for a tight offside.
Chelsea's only worry in the first half was James, who was substituted after 35 minutes having gone down while trying to run on to the ball.
After the break, substitute Aggie Beever-Jones scored her first goal since September 2025, finishing a clever flick from Keira Walsh. Giulia Dragoni then wrapped up the win with her first Chelsea goal, a brilliant turn and finish.
Sonia Bompastor's side also hit the woodwork through Sandy Baltimore and Maika Hamano, while Alyssa Thompson shot wide with the goal at her mercy.
Chelsea are level on points with champions Manchester City but have a better goal difference. They have scored 11 goals more than City this season, and they have won seven league games in a row since a draw with Aston Villa on the opening day.
For Charlton, it was another bruising afternoon. It was the fourth time this season they conceded four or more goals in a league match.
They have conceded 25 goals, failed to score in five of eight games, and remain bottom with zero points. They face fellow newcomers Crystal Palace next Sunday.
