Gary Neville gives honest Man United relegation verdict after suffering new blow

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Tuesday November 3, 2026, After Saturday's disheartening 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has spoken out about the club's relegation concerns.

After the loss, Michael Carrick's squad dropped to 17th place in the Premier League, with United escaping the drop zone only thanks to goal differential.

Problems with United's terrible start to the season have intensified as they are now tied for 18th place with Crystal Palace and only two points above last place Sunderland.

The latest loss to Chelsea has added insult to injury for Carrick, who has been under increasing pressure as United manager due to their nine-match losing streak.

Though they are in a worrying position, Neville does not think his old club will end up fighting relegation.

The former Manchester United captain spoke to Sky Sports and acknowledged that the club is going through a bad patch, but he maintained that they will not finish in the bottom three.

When Manchester United are fighting for their league position, I don't think it's appropriate. No, I really doubt they'll wind up there, but it's still concerning. "There's a serious lack of results and performance," Neville remarked.

The former defender went on to say that he is frustrated by United's negative reaction times when they are down in a game.

While Neville did admit that the first half was better than Chelsea's, he still thinks the team is having trouble keeping their cool when their opponents start to dominate.

It is quite challenging. Basically, he was trying to convey the idea that the club was in a rut.

"It has hit a wall in terms of results; they are now winless in nine games, which is obviously a terrible streak to be on at any time."

Rather than letting their performances crumble after giving up goals, Manchester United needs to figure out how to handle tough moments in games, according to Neville.

On the other hand, Neville has cautioned that Manchester United will have a tough stretch of games coming up, with a number of tough opponents in store for Carrick's squad.

On Tuesday, United will host Roma in the Champions League at Old Trafford. The following weekend, they will travel to face Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The following week, at Anfield, they'll face another tough test against Liverpool.

According to Neville, Manchester United's present vulnerabilities can be exposed by these opponents' tactical prowess and organizational skills.

Next weekend, Aston Villa are highly organized and know how to play, but Roma could accomplish that on Tuesday. He then said that they would travel to Anfield.

Carrick is under increasing pressure to turnaround United's fortunes as the club continues to lose games and falls further and further behind in the Premier League standings.
