Jordan Henderson could face a hostile reception at Anfield when Chelsea visit Liverpool in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday following a celebration that angered supporters of his former club.
According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, the former Liverpool captain upset some Reds fans after tapping the Chelsea badge on his shirt during the club’s 5-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth earlier this month.
Henderson, who joined Chelsea on a free transfer this summer after leaving Brentford, scored twice against Bournemouth, including an impressive free-kick that found the top-right corner.
The 36-year-old celebrated his goals by showing his affection for Chelsea, a gesture that received contrasting reactions from supporters of both clubs.
The midfielder spent 12 years at Liverpool, captaining the side during the successful Jurgen Klopp era. He helped the Merseyside club win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and two Carabao Cup titles, establishing himself as an important figure in their modern history.
However, his latest celebration has prompted criticism from sections of the Liverpool fanbase ahead of his potential return to Anfield.
One Liverpool supporter account criticised the midfielder, writing: "Jordan Henderson tapped on the Chelsea badge twice, yeah, he's a rat."
Another fan added: "His behaviour tapping the badge like the club means the world to him is exactly why people don't like Jordan Henderson."
A third supporter also expressed disappointment, saying: "I will never respect this Jordan Henderson guy," while others described the celebration as a mistake and suggested he had become carried away.
Chelsea supporters, meanwhile, welcomed the gesture, viewing it as a sign of the midfielder's commitment to his new club.
One Blues fan responded: "Bro even tapped the badge," before adding: "Proper Chels right there." Another supporter suggested Henderson could eventually become Chelsea captain.
The reactions have added another talking point ahead of Wednesday's encounter, with Henderson potentially facing an uncomfortable evening if he features in Xabi Alonso's team.
Liverpool will be aiming to secure a fifth consecutive victory, while Chelsea will be looking to respond after suffering a 2-0 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
