According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, November 2, 2026, Everton recorded an important 1-0 away victory over Newcastle United, with Thierno Barry scoring the only goal of the encounter to secure all three points for the visitors.
The two sides started the match with attacking intentions, but neither managed to create many clear-cut opportunities in the early minutes. Everton looked dangerous through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Garner, while Newcastle found it difficult to make their possession count in the final third.
As the first half progressed, Newcastle began to put more pressure on Everton. Joelinton came close with an effort that went narrowly wide, while Dan Burn also missed the target with a header from close range. Everton responded through Jake O’Brien, whose headed attempt also failed to find the back of the net.
Both goalkeepers played important roles before the interval. Jordan Pickford remained focused whenever Newcastle threatened, while Lukas Hornicek made crucial saves to prevent Everton from taking the lead. Despite creating some promising moments towards the end of the first half, the visitors went into the break without scoring.
However, Everton needed just four minutes after the restart to break the deadlock. Tyrique George saw his close-range volley saved by Hornicek, but Barry was perfectly positioned to collect the rebound and send the ball into the net.
Newcastle immediately pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Pickford produced several impressive saves to preserve Everton's advantage. The goalkeeper denied efforts from Dewsbury-Hall and O’Brien as the contest became increasingly intense.
Anthony Elanga nearly brought Newcastle back into the game, but his attempt struck the post. The hosts continued attacking through Fabian Schär, Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey, but they could not find a way past Everton's defence.
Everton remained organised during eight minutes of added time, successfully resisting Newcastle's late attempts. Pickford made further saves from Wissa, while William Osula failed to convert a promising headed opportunity.
In the end, Barry's second-half goal proved enough to hand Everton a valuable 1-0 victory and leave Newcastle disappointed after failing to make their home advantage count.
