Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that Vincent Kompany is stable in hospital but could remain away from work for several weeks after collapsing at the club’s training ground.
According to a report by Metro on Saturday, 24 October 2026, the 40-year-old manager was taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing during a training session with Bayern Munich’s Under-23 team.
Kompany had been battling a viral infection and missed training ahead of Bayern’s Champions League encounter against Arsenal on Wednesday. However, he returned to the touchline for the 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Eberl confirmed that the Belgian was undergoing further medical examinations, with doctors yet to establish the precise cause of the incident.
‘So the good news is that he is stable,’ Eberl said.
He added that Kompany would remain in hospital for several more days while medical staff conducted the necessary tests.
‘The examinations are ongoing, and they have obtained some results but further tests are needed to establish exactly what is wrong. Only then can they determine the appropriate treatment.’
The Bayern chief stressed that the manager’s health was the priority and urged everyone involved to give him sufficient time to recover.
‘We’re sending Vini our best wishes for a speedy recovery from all of us. We, as Bayern Munich, stand together during a moment like this, because the most important thing is to identify the cause of what happened to Vinnie, ensure that he gets healthy, and give him the time he needs to recover in peace.’
Eberl also revealed that Kompany had experienced minor health problems the previous week. The club’s coaching staff had already kept him away from work for two days before the Arsenal fixture because of the infection.
However, the manager subsequently felt well enough to return to his duties.
Eberl suggested that Kompany’s determination to work could have contributed to him pushing himself beyond his limits, adding that the club would make greater efforts to protect him during his recovery.
Bayern have ruled out setting a definite return date, with Eberl confirming that the absence would be measured in weeks rather than days.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks is expected to oversee the team during Kompany’s absence as the German champions continue their campaign.
