Aston Villa suffer defensive setback ahead of Manchester United clash

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Aston Villa could be without two recognised right-back options when they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on November 8, following Matty Cash's suspension.

The Poland international received his fifth Premier League booking of the season during Villa's meeting with Fulham, triggering an automatic one-match ban that rules him out of next weekend's encounter.

Cash's absence presents an additional selection problem for Unai Emery, particularly because Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also unavailable as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Villa signed Cash for £16 million, and the 29-year-old has established himself as an important member of Emery's defensive setup.

His suspension therefore leaves the manager with a gap to address before the trip to Manchester, with Wan-Bissaka unable to provide an immediate replacement.

The development offers United a potential advantage as they prepare for their next Premier League assignment, although they must first turn their attention to their midweek Champions League meeting with Roma.

Michael Carrick's side will enter the Villa fixture looking to respond after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

United had a promising opening period against the London club but struggled to maintain their performance after the interval, eventually leaving without a point.

The result extended their winless run to nine consecutive games, increasing the importance of finding a positive response in their upcoming fixtures.

Villa's defensive situation could provide United with an opportunity to exploit, particularly with their first-choice right-back suspended and his experienced deputy still recovering from injury.

However, Emery will have to consider his available alternatives before deciding how to reorganise that position.

The November 8 meeting will be United's final match before the next international break, giving Carrick's team an opportunity to finish that period with a positive result.

With Villa facing uncertainty over their right-back position, United will hope to take advantage of the situation when the two sides meet at Old Trafford.
