According to a report by The BBC on Sunday, November 1, 2026, after a thrashing victory over last place Charlton at The Valley, Chelsea Women are back atop the Women's Super League.
Karen Hills' squad was taken aback as the Blues scored four goals in the opening 19 minutes. After only three minutes, Katie McCabe's cross found Nathalie Bjorn, who scored with a looping header.
After Charlton's Anna Koivunen made a mess of the ball and put it into her own net, Melvine Malard scored the second goal.
Ellie Carpenter scored her second goal in as many games after Koivunen parried a shot from Lauren James on the edge of the box.
The fourth was then poked home by Malard. The goal was disallowed due to a close offside, but she believed she had scored a hat trick.
James, Chelsea's sole concern in the first half, went down trying to run onto the ball and was substituted after 35 minutes.
Substitute Aggie Beever-Jones scored after the break, finishing off a deft flick from Keira Walsh, for her first goal since September 2025. After that, Giulia Dragoni scored her first goal for Chelsea with an incredible turn and finish to seal the victory.
Alyssa Thompson missed the target with the goal at her fingertips, and Sandy Baltimore and Maika Hamano also found the back of the net for Sonia Bompastor's team.
Chelsea and champions Manchester City are tied on points, but Chelsea has a superior goal differential. Since opening day's draw with Aston Villa, they've won seven consecutive league games and scored eleven more goals than City.
Once again, Charlton had a brutal afternoon. This was their fourth league match this season in which they let in four or more goals.
Despite not scoring in five of their last eight games, they have allowed 25 goals and have no points to show for it. Next Sunday, they'll take on Crystal Palace, another newcomer.
