According to a report by footballTransfers on Friday October 23, 2026, Benjamin Sesko’s latest injury has left Manchester United short of centre-forward options. With the striker potentially sidelined until late February, the club may look for an emergency signing in January.
Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha could cover the position in the meantime, but neither provides a natural long-term solution. According to The Sun, United are considering reinforcements, with Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram emerging as a realistic candidate.
Recruitment analysis from SciSports identified 13 potential replacements for Sesko. Several, including Harry Kane, Alexander Isak and Joao Pedro, are unlikely to be available mid-season.
Others, such as Ollie Watkins, Robert Lewandowski and Gonçalo Ramos, only moved clubs recently.
Thuram, by contrast, could be an attainable option. The 29-year-old offers strength, finishing ability and ball retention qualities that suit the role Sesko plays.
He has scored four goals in six Serie A appearances this season and is currently starting for Inter while Lautaro Martínez recovers from a hamstring injury.
SciSports gives Thuram a SciSkill rating of 118.4, higher than any current United player in the comparison. Sesko has a lower present rating, but a higher projected potential.
Inter are competing for the Serie A title and playing in the Champions League, so they may be reluctant to lose an important forward in January.
However, the emergence of young strikers Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny could give the Italian club cover.
Reports have suggested Inter might consider offers of around €60 million. That would be above Thuram’s estimated transfer value, but United may have to pay a premium to secure a mid-season deal.
Sesko’s absence has exposed United’s lack of depth up front. Thuram could offer an experienced solution, though persuading Inter to sell may prove the biggest challenge.
