According to a report by London Evening Standard on Saturday, October 24, 2026, former Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is reportedly facing the possibility of a worldwide football suspension following claims that he returned a positive result during an anti-doping examination conducted while representing Brazilian club Flamengo.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who previously enjoyed successful spells in European football, has reportedly become the subject of an investigation after an initial test conducted under the authority of South American football governing body Conmebol produced an adverse finding.
Reports emerging from Brazil suggest that a second examination has been arranged for October 27 to establish whether the original result will be confirmed. However, there has been no official announcement establishing that Jorginho committed an anti-doping violation.
The former Arsenal player completed his move to Flamengo during the summer of 2025, bringing considerable experience to the Brazilian side after representing some of Europe's biggest clubs.
Brazilian journalist Thiago Asmar has reportedly indicated that the upcoming counter-analysis will play an important role in determining the next steps. Should the additional examination confirm the initial finding, disciplinary proceedings could follow.
Nevertheless, the midfielder has not received any officially confirmed suspension, meaning his eligibility to participate in competitive football has not been formally affected by the reported allegations.
Meanwhile, Flamengo have reportedly maintained that they are yet to receive an official communication concerning any potential doping offence involving their experienced midfielder.
Jorginho recently participated in Flamengo's Copa Libertadores semi-final encounter against Estudiantes, where he reportedly failed to convert a penalty during the contest.
Reports have suggested that the Italian international could face a suspension lasting between six months and two years if an anti-doping violation is eventually established. Any punishment would depend on the substance involved, the applicable regulations and the findings of the disciplinary process.
Such an outcome could represent a significant setback for Flamengo, particularly as manager Leonardo Jardim continues his efforts to strengthen the team's performances and maintain competitiveness across domestic and continental competitions.
Losing an experienced midfielder for an extended period would potentially force the coaching staff to reconsider their tactical arrangements and midfield options.
For Jorginho, the uncertainty surrounding the situation comes at an important stage of his professional career, having established himself as a respected midfielder through his performances in European and international football.
Attention will now turn towards the scheduled October 27 examination, which could provide further information regarding the reported findings.
Until the relevant authorities confirm the outcome and announce any disciplinary decision, the allegations remain unresolved, and Jorginho cannot be considered guilty of an anti-doping violation.
