Barcelona youngster Sama Nomoko takes major step towards return after serious knee injury

According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday November 7, 2026, Barcelona youngster Sama Nomoko has moved closer to making his return to action after taking an important step in his recovery from a serious knee injury.

According to reports, the 18-year-old winger has resumed training with the ball as he enters the final stage of his rehabilitation.

Nomoko, who is part of Barcelona Atletic, has been out of action for almost a year after suffering a serious injury during a UEFA Youth League match against Eintracht Frankfurt in December 2025.

The teenage attacker ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and also sustained damage to his meniscus, forcing him to undergo surgery.

His initial recovery period was estimated at around 12 months, and he has since been working hard to regain full fitness.

In recent months, Nomoko has gradually increased his workload, returning to pitch-based training and completing high-intensity running exercises.

The latest development is that he has now started working with the ball, a significant milestone that suggests he is making encouraging progress towards a comeback.

Barcelona's first-team medical staff have been monitoring the youngster's recovery since August, keeping a close eye on his rehabilitation and physical condition.

However, the Catalan club are not prepared to rush his return despite the positive signs.

Barcelona's medical department and Barça Atletic coach Juliano Belletti want to ensure that Nomoko completes every stage of his recovery before being reintegrated into competitive football.

As a result, the 18-year-old is not expected to return to action until January 2027 at the earliest.

Nomoko was regarded as one of the promising young talents at the club before his injury interrupted his development.

During the 2025/26 campaign, he made 14 appearances for Barça Atletic, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

He also registered one assist in four appearances for Barcelona's Juvenil A team in the UEFA Youth League.

His performances had attracted attention within the club, with Barcelona maintaining strong confidence in his ability and long-term potential.

Meanwhile, discussions over a possible new contract have reportedly emerged because his current agreement with the Catalan giants expires in 2027.

For now, Nomoko's immediate priority is to complete his rehabilitation and return to full fitness.

Barcelona will hope the talented winger can put his injury problems behind him and continue his development when he eventually returns to the pitch.
