According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday November 5, 2026, the Catalan club is getting ready to offer 19-year-old defender Hafiz Gariba a long-term contract that will keep him with the club until 2031.
The Catalan club wants to keep the La Masia prospect's development a secret because he has been impressive since his arrival in February 2025.
There have been rumors that Gariba's current contract will be up in 2027. With a four-year extension in the works, he will remain with Barcelona until the summer of 2031.
The Marcet Foundation brought the Ghanaian center back to the academy. The youngster has since worked his way up the ranks and had multiple opportunities to train with Hansi Flick's first team.
Gariba was an early participant in the preseason training for the senior squad. When other defenders were out with injuries, he would train with Flick before games against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
This season, he has continued to develop with Barça Atletic. The 19-year-old has made nine appearances for Juliano Belletti's squad and has established himself as a mainstay.
As far as the Barcelona youth system's defensive prospects are concerned, Gariba is among the most promising. As a result of his recent success, the club is making preparations to sign him to a new contract in the coming year.
The defender is allegedly being watched by multiple clubs. The interest in his abilities and contract status has heightened Barcelona's desire to sign him.
But there's more to negotiations than just money. It will also be crucial to consider the club's sporting plans and Gariba's available pathway to the senior team.
The coaching staff at Barcelona clearly believes in him, as he has had opportunities to train with the first team in the past. Now it's up to the club and the player to talk about the renewal and see if they can come to an agreement to keep the young defender around for the long haul.
