According to a report from FootballTransfers on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Chelsea are reportedly concerned about Alejandro Garnacho’s limited opportunities at Aston Villa, with his lack of playing time raising questions about his future and the conditions of his loan agreement.
Chelsea brought the Argentine winger to Stamford Bridge from Manchester United in 2025 for €46.2 million. However, his first campaign with the Blues did not go as planned, and following Xabi Alonso’s appointment, Garnacho was no longer considered part of the club’s immediate plans. He subsequently joined Aston Villa on loan in search of more regular football.
Villa manager Unai Emery had reportedly been interested in Garnacho for some time, but the move has yet to provide the expected opportunities. The 22-year-old has made just four appearances since arriving in Birmingham, accumulating only 42 minutes of action.
The agreement between Chelsea and Villa reportedly includes a conditional obligation to buy, with UEFA regulations said to have complicated the possibility of arranging a straightforward permanent transfer.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea suspect that Villa could be reluctant to meet the conditions required to activate the purchase clause. The London club had reportedly anticipated receiving around €50 million through a permanent deal, but the situation could leave them needing to find another destination for Garnacho if he returns at the end of his loan.
The winger’s difficult spell has also attracted attention from his former Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, who recently discussed his qualities and areas for improvement.
Speaking to The Athletic, Ten Hag described Garnacho as an “amazing player” but stressed the importance of providing him with trust and support. He also highlighted the need for the forward to maintain his defensive responsibilities and make better decisions on the pitch.
With his minutes at Villa remaining limited, Garnacho faces uncertainty over his immediate future. Chelsea will be monitoring the situation closely as they assess whether the loan can lead to a permanent transfer or whether alternative plans will be needed.
