According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Thursday October 22, 2026, Michael Carrick has refused to give a clear answer about his future as Manchester United head coach after his side suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.
The United boss is under increasing pressure following a disappointing start to the season, with the club recording just two wins in their first 11 matches. The defeat to Como extended their winless run to seven games in all competitions, raising fresh questions about Carrick's position at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the match, Carrick insisted that he had not given his own position much thought, despite the growing scrutiny surrounding his future.
"I've not given my own position any thought," he said, before shifting the focus towards the supporters and the team's disappointing performance.
When asked directly whether he had considered walking away from the club, the 45-year-old avoided a straightforward response.
"It's not about me right now, and my feelings in that regard. It's more as a team and as a football club, what we want to look like, what we should look like," Carrick explained.
The United manager also expressed his disappointment with the team's display, insisting that performances must meet the standards expected at the club regardless of the result.
"The results can come and go at times, but you've got to do it in a certain way. And that wasn't it," he added.
Carrick also apologised to the travelling supporters who remained in the away end after the final whistle, acknowledging that the performance was unacceptable.
"I have to apologise to the supporters," he said, reaffirming his commitment to the club and his disappointment with what he had witnessed.
The defeat has increased the pressure on Carrick ahead of Manchester United's upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth. With results continuing to disappoint, the manager will be hoping his players can deliver a stronger performance and restore confidence.
