Chelsea Hold Five-Game Winning Record Under Referee Ahead of Sunderland Clash

According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, Chelsea have won their last five matches officiated by referee Jarred Gillett ahead of their Premier League trip to Sunderland on Sunday.

The Australian referee has been appointed to oversee the meeting at the Stadium of Light, giving the Blues an encouraging record ahead of the fixture.

Chelsea's most recent victory under Gillett came against Leeds United in September, when they secured a 6-3 win in the EFL Cup.

They also defeated Leeds 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals in April, while victories over Aston Villa, Wolves and Tottenham completed their impressive run.

The Blues beat Aston Villa 4-1 in March, Wolves 3-1 in February and Tottenham 1-0 in November 2025.

Overall, Chelsea have played 14 matches under Gillett, recording eight wins, four draws and two defeats.

This represents a 57.1 per cent win rate, although one victory came through a penalty shootout.

Their last five matches under the referee produced nine yellow cards, with no red cards shown. Two penalties were also awarded during their victory over Wolves.

Gillett will be assisted by Neil Davies and Nick Greenhalgh, while John Busby has been appointed fourth official. Nick Hopton will oversee VAR, supported by Wade Smith as assistant VAR.

Chelsea will travel to Sunderland after securing a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, with Xabi Alonso's side looking to maintain their positive momentum.

The Blues' impressive record under Gillett provides an encouraging statistic, but they must still produce a strong performance to secure another three points.
