According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Real Madrid are reportedly considering Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as a potential long-term replacement for Thibaut Courtois as they begin making plans for the future.
The Spanish giants have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old Netherlands international, whose performances in the Premier League have attracted considerable attention.
Verbruggen recently delivered an impressive performance against Manchester City, making seven crucial saves to help Brighton claim a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium on October 31.
His outstanding display demonstrated his ability to cope with intense pressure and compete against elite attacking opponents. The Dutch goalkeeper was instrumental in frustrating Manchester City's forward line and ensuring they failed to score.
Since completing his move from Anderlecht in 2023, Verbruggen has developed into Brighton's regular first-choice goalkeeper. His consistent performances have also strengthened his position within the Netherlands national team.
Real Madrid are believed to have been tracking the goalkeeper's development for an extended period. His quick reflexes, calmness under pressure and impressive distribution skills have reportedly made him an appealing prospect for the club.
However, Courtois continues to occupy the number-one position at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite being 34, the Belgian goalkeeper remains an influential member of the squad and has maintained his importance under manager Jose Mourinho.
Despite Courtois' continued importance, Madrid recognise that they will eventually need to find a suitable replacement. The experienced goalkeeper's contract is scheduled to run until 2027, with negotiations over a potential extension still taking place.
For now, Real Madrid have not shown any intention of making an immediate approach for Verbruggen. Their current priority is to follow his progress while evaluating their options for the long term.
Whether the Brighton shot-stopper will eventually be chosen to take over from Courtois at the Santiago Bernabeu remains uncertain.
