Morgan Rogers has disclosed how advice from Chelsea team-mate Joao Pedro during training may have helped him produce his outstanding goal in the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United.
According to a report by Football London on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the England international acknowledged Pedro’s influence after scoring an impressive solo effort at Stamford Bridge.
Rogers delivered one of the game’s defining moments shortly after the restart. He collected possession, drove past Manchester United’s defenders and calmly lifted the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens to extend Chelsea’s lead.
Cole Palmer later converted a penalty to make it 2-0 after Lisandro Martinez was sent off for receiving a second yellow card, completing an important win for Xabi Alonso’s team.
After the final whistle, former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo interviewed Rogers and praised his decision to chip Lammens rather than attempt a conventional finish. Flo also highlighted how effective the technique can be when attackers find themselves one-on-one with goalkeepers.
However, Rogers was quick to acknowledge that he may have picked up the idea from Pedro, who regularly practises the technique during Chelsea training sessions.
“Joao Pedro is so good at it.
“He’s always doing it in training, and he’s always moaning at me to do it. Maybe that was him speaking to me in the back of my mind,” Rogers said.
Although Pedro missed the encounter against Manchester United because of a thigh injury, Rogers’ comments showed how the Brazilian’s influence continues to benefit his team-mates.
The 25-year-old had enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign before his injury setback, registering five goals and three assists in six Premier League appearances.
His absence required Alonso to explore alternative attacking combinations, with Rogers featuring alongside Palmer and Estevao Willian.
Alonso was pleased with his team’s response, particularly their performance after the interval, and explained that his players had successfully adapted to the available options.
“Today has worked really well,” the Chelsea manager said.
Rogers’ revelation also highlights the positive influence players can have on one another during training, with Pedro’s repeated encouragement seemingly paying off in a crucial Premier League fixture.
As the Brazilian continues his recovery, Chelsea will hope to maintain their recent momentum while looking forward to having him back in the team.
