According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Head coach Akeem Busari of the Nigerian U-17 women's national team was elated after leading the Flamingos to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup final in Morocco.
On Wednesday nite, the young Nigerians advanced to the finals after a dominant 3-1 semi-final win over Brazil at Rabat's Mohammed VI Football Complex Pitch 3.
The Flamingos' victory made history for Nigerian women's football, as they advanced to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup final, making them the first African team to do so.
Busari's squad dominated play and showed off their offensive prowess to earn a well-deserved win against their South American opponents.
When put in context with the origins of their campaign, their accomplishment stands out even more. The 2-1 loss to Poland in Nigeria's first group match has cast doubt on the team's prospects of making it far in the competition.
Still, the youthful Nigerians bounced back from that setback, playing much better in their next matches and eventually advancing to the semifinals.
By advancing to the championship game, the Flamingos joined a select group of teams that have, since 2014, bounced back from an opening-round loss to advance to the final.
Busari hailed the historic qualification as a watershed moment for Nigerian football and the nation.
The coach from Nigeria was pleased with his team's performance and spoke highly of the influence they could have on Nigerian football if they made it to the final.
Busari told FIFA that the event was a huge success and that the team's improvement was a positive step for Nigeria's athletic future.
Additionally, he was overjoyed to witness the youth team achieve a historic feat by advancing to the championship game, marking Africa's first ever appearance in the tournament final.
With their incredible season almost over, the Flamingos will be focusing on the final and hoping to end it on a high note by winning the trophy.
With their remarkable resilience in the face of early adversity and subsequent triumph over some of the tournament's most formidable opponents, the Nigerian women's football team has cemented its place in history as a qualifying team.
