Barcelona Still Consider Gavi a Key Player Despite Limited Playing Time

According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday November 2, 2026, despite his lack of playing time, 22-year-old midfielder Gavi is still considered an important part of Barcelona's squad, and the club has no intentions of selling him.

The academy graduate had a tough time breaking into Hansi Flick's starting lineup in the 2026–27 season. Although he has made seven appearances, he has only played for 191 minutes and has started twice. Gavi missed a couple of games due to a minor injury, but he has also gone unutilized in five La Liga matches.

Recent matches between Barcelona and Real Madrid and Deportivo Alaves did not feature the midfielder's introduction. His dissatisfaction with Flick's handling of his situation reportedly stems from his reduced involvement.

Nonetheless, according to Fabrizio Romano, the club continues to appreciate his contributions and consider him an integral member of the squad.

Gavi has found it challenging to earn more opportunities due to the competition for spots in Barcelona's midfield.

The midfielder from the Canary Islands, Pedri, is still a mainstay in the starting lineup, but summer acquisition Rodri has quickly become Flick's favorite partner.

Fermin Lopez has solidified his position as the team's attacking midfielder, and Marc Bernal has been impressive when given opportunities.

Gavi may find the situation even more difficult if Frenkie de Jong returns from injury. Barcelona is not contemplating releasing the 22-year-old regardless of the competition.

In his press conference before the Champions League match against Aston Villa, Flick discussed the midfielder's situation.

Even though decisions made during matches can alter the initial strategy, he lauded Gavi's quality and reiterated that he is still a possibility. The manager went on to say that he had a conversation with the player in which he emphasized the significance of keeping his self-assurance high.

Whether Gavi's responsibilities grow in the next weeks is anybody's guess, but Barcelona still considers him an integral component of their strategy.
