According to a report by Metro on Friday, October 30, 2026, both players have returned to training after missing Arsenal's Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town in midweek. The pair had picked up minor injuries during the Gunners' 2-0 victory over Everton last weekend.
Calafiori's absence from the starting lineup against Everton initially attracted attention, although the defender eventually came on as a substitute during the closing stages. Unfortunately, he experienced another fitness problem afterwards, which prevented him from participating in the cup fixture against Fleetwood.
Rice also missed the midweek match after suffering a minor injury during the Everton encounter. His absence raised concerns about whether he would recover in time for the difficult trip to Anfield, particularly given his importance to Arsenal's midfield.
However, Arteta has confirmed that both players have resumed training and could be included in the squad to face Liverpool, provided they complete their preparations without experiencing further problems.
"They all trained today. They will train tomorrow and if all is okay, they will be available," Arteta said during his pre-match press conference.
The Arsenal manager also provided an update on Noni Madueke, whose participation remains uncertain. The winger's condition will be assessed following Saturday's training session before the club reaches a final decision.
"We don't know yet, we have a training session tomorrow, let's see if he can complete it," Arteta said.
There is further encouragement for Arsenal supporters following the return of Christos Tzolis to training. The winger has missed the club's previous six matches because of a hamstring injury but could now be considered for Sunday's encounter.
Despite these positive developments, Arsenal will still be without William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, who remain unavailable because of their respective longer-term injuries.
Young midfielder Max Dowman is another confirmed absentee after receiving a red card against Fleetwood Town. Arsenal attempted to challenge the decision, but their appeal was unsuccessful.
The potential availability of Rice and Calafiori would strengthen Arteta's options as Arsenal prepare for a demanding contest against Liverpool. The Gunners will be determined to recover from their disappointing cup exit and return to winning ways in the Premier League.
