Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha will not face additional disciplinary action from UEFA after returning to the pitch following his dismissal during the club's dramatic Champions League victory over Roma.
According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the Brazilian forward was sent off after receiving two yellow cards during the encounter, despite playing a crucial role in United's remarkable comeback.
With Manchester United trailing 2-0, Cunha delivered an outstanding performance in the closing stages, scoring twice in the 83rd and 86th minutes to help Michael Carrick's side secure an important victory.
However, his contribution was overshadowed by his dismissal after receiving two bookings. Following his red card, the 27-year-old watched the remaining moments of the match from a billboard near the pitch.
After the final whistle, Cunha returned to the field to celebrate with his teammates and acknowledge supporters in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. His decision attracted the attention of Carrick, who instructed him to leave the playing area because he had already been sent off.
Although the manager expressed concern about the forward's return, UEFA has reportedly decided against taking further action over the incident.
A UEFA official explained that Cunha's return was not included in the official match reports, leaving no grounds for an additional investigation or punishment.
As a result, the Brazilian will serve only the automatic one-match suspension resulting from his dismissal. This means he will miss Manchester United's upcoming Champions League fixture against Sporting later this month.
Despite the controversy, Carrick recognised Cunha's importance to the team's comeback. The manager's tactical adjustment, which gave the forward greater freedom in central areas during the second half, helped him become more influential and eventually deliver the two decisive goals.
Cunha's determination and attacking contribution were among the major factors behind United's impressive second-half performance.
