According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday November 1, 2026, Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has expressed his delight after scoring in Coventry City's 3-1 victory over Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Nigerian international netted Coventry's second goal eight minutes before half-time at the CBS Arena as Frank Lampard's side secured an important three points.
Awoniyi produced an impressive individual effort to find the back of the net, winning possession from Sunderland's Luke O'Nien before driving towards goal.
The 28-year-old showed good strength to hold off two opposing players before calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Robin Roefs.
Speaking after the match, Awoniyi expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, insisting that securing all three points was more important than his individual achievement.
“I think the most important thing is the three points.
“I think the team from the outset played good together, the game plan worked,” he told the Premier League website.
Coventry had taken the lead through Tatsuhiro Sakamoto before Awoniyi doubled their advantage with his well-taken finish.
Jack Rudoni later made it 3-0 for Lampard's men, while Sunderland managed to score a late consolation through a penalty.
The victory lifted Coventry to nine points from nine Premier League matches, providing a significant boost to their efforts to stay clear of the relegation zone.
For Awoniyi, the goal was also an important personal achievement as he continues his efforts to establish himself at the club.
The former Nottingham Forest striker had endured a difficult moment in September when he was sent off during Coventry's 5-0 defeat against Brighton.
However, he has now scored twice for Lampard's side and will be hoping to build on his latest performance as the season progresses.
