According to a video posted on Channels TV on Friday November 6, 2026, Senator Adams Oshiomhole said he must try to hit the ball to the net, and that if Atiku Abubakar is an obstacle, he will dribble past him. He used a football example in a one-on-one interview on President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. Oshiomhole is a former governor of Edo State and a sitting senator.

He was replying to the host, who said Atiku seems to give him a nightmare. Oshiomhole said he has no problem with Atiku at a personal level. He said he respects him as a former vice president.

He said he has huge respect for Atiku’s person and the office he held. He then said a person should decide whether to play or to coach. He added that those who play must face their opponents.

In his words, Oshiomhole said, “At a personal level I have no problem with him. I respect him as a former vice president. I have huge respect for his person and for the office he has held.

"But one should choose to remain a player when you should be a coach. You must face the attackers to strike, and you are at the goal post.

"I must try to hit the ball to the net, and if you are an obstacle to that net, then I will dribble you. I hope if [Atiku] wins we will not go on exile,” he said.

Oshiomhole said Atiku has failed four times in his political career. He said Atiku ran in primaries in Lagos and lost. He said Atiku later went back to the PDP and was rejected.

He added that his criticism is meant to remind voters of past records. He said the voters must choose between two sets of records. He said he would repeat his claims anywhere.
