According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Nigeria's U-17 women's national team head coach, Akeem Busari, has expressed his delight after guiding the Flamingos into the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco.
The Nigerian youngsters secured their place in the final following an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in their semi-final encounter at the Mohammed VI Football Complex Pitch 3 in Rabat on Wednesday night.
The victory represented a significant milestone for Nigerian women's football, as the Flamingos became the first African nation to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Busari's team produced an impressive performance against their South American opponents, controlling proceedings and demonstrating their attacking quality to secure a deserved victory.
Their achievement is particularly remarkable considering how their campaign began. Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening group match, raising questions about their chances of progressing far in the tournament.
However, the young Nigerians recovered from that disappointment, showing considerable improvement in subsequent matches before eliminating their opponents in the knockout stages.
By reaching the final, the Flamingos also became the second team since 2014 to recover from losing their opening match and subsequently reach the tournament's showpiece encounter.
Reacting to the historic qualification, Busari described the accomplishment as an important moment for the country and Nigerian football.
The Nigerian coach expressed satisfaction with his players' efforts, highlighting the significance of reaching the final and the positive impact their achievement could have on football in the country.
Speaking to FIFA, Busari described the occasion as an outstanding accomplishment and emphasised that the team's progress represented something valuable for Nigeria's sporting development.
He also expressed happiness at seeing the young players make history by securing Africa's first appearance in the final of the competition.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to the final as they prepare for an opportunity to complete their remarkable campaign by lifting the trophy.
Their qualification has already secured a special place in the history of Nigerian women's football, with the players having demonstrated their ability to recover from an early setback and compete successfully against some of the strongest teams in the tournament.
