Andorra Goalkeeper who collided with Jesus de Miguel breaks down over footballer death

According to a report by the Daily Mirror on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono has been left devastated following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel after their on-field collision during a Spanish second-division match.

The two footballers were involved in a serious challenge during the encounter, which left De Miguel requiring immediate medical attention.

The Tenerife forward was subsequently taken to hospital, but his condition deteriorated despite efforts to save his life. His death was confirmed by the Spanish club on Tuesday morning.

CD Tenerife announced that the 30-year-old passed away at 8:00 am on November 3, 2026, expressing profound sadness over the loss of their player.

The club also extended its condolences to De Miguel's family, friends and supporters while asking the public to respect the privacy of his loved ones during the difficult period. Meanwhile, Owono has reportedly struggled to come to terms with the tragic development.

According to Spanish publication AS, the Andorra goalkeeper was seen crying and praying inside the dressing room after the match. He was also reportedly visibly shaken throughout the team's journey back to Andorra.

The report added that Owono had intended to contact De Miguel and his family privately to apologise for the incident and offer his support before making any public statement.

However, the striker's subsequent death changed the situation, leaving the goalkeeper deeply affected by the outcome. Owono has also reportedly deleted his Instagram account after receiving abusive messages from social media users following the incident.

People close to the goalkeeper described him as a caring and kind individual, insisting that he had no intention of hurting his opponent. Footage of the collision reportedly showed Owono turning towards De Miguel to check on his condition while other players moved away from the immediate situation.

Andorra have also confirmed that the incident was accidental, with no deliberate intention to cause harm. Reports from Spain indicated that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest during the match and was resuscitated before being rushed to hospital, where he received intensive medical attention.

Following confirmation of his death, Andorra released a statement expressing sympathy to the striker's family, teammates, friends and everyone associated with Tenerife.

De Miguel joined Tenerife from Castellón in the summer of 2025. He had made six appearances for the club this season, all coming from the substitutes' bench.
