According to a report by Flashscore on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Liverpool were handed a disappointing 3-2 defeat by Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League after throwing away their advantage during the second half.
The Reds initially moved ahead through Trey Nyoni's 25th-minute goal, but Mason Greenwood equalised for the hosts. Alexander Isak restored Liverpool's lead in the 69th minute before defensive lapses allowed Archie Brown and Vedat Muriqi to score and secure a remarkable comeback for the Turkish club.
While Liverpool created several opportunities throughout the match, a number of their players struggled to perform at the required level, contributing to the disappointing result.
1. Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk was among the Liverpool players who failed to impress, as the defender struggled to organise the backline and prevent Fenerbahce from completing their comeback.
He conceded a free kick in the 33rd minute after committing a foul on an opposition player. The centre-back later threatened to score with a header from a corner in the 57th minute, but Ederson reacted brilliantly to make the save.
Van Dijk's biggest disappointment came in stoppage time when he squandered an excellent opportunity to equalise. Having received a pass from Cody Gakpo, he sent his close-range effort over the crossbar instead of finding the target.
2. Joe Gomez
Joe Gomez also struggled to produce an effective performance despite getting involved in Liverpool's attacking play.
The defender showed some determination in the 21st minute when he worked his way past several challenges inside the penalty area. However, he wasted the promising move by delivering an inaccurate pass towards Bradley Barcola.
His long-range attempt in the 61st minute was another disappointing moment, as the effort sailed well wide of the left post. His lack of precision and composure proved costly during important attacking situations.
3. Dominik Szoboszlai
Dominik Szoboszlai failed to deliver his usual quality, particularly from set-piece situations. His corner deliveries in the 20th, 24th and 62nd minutes did not create significant problems for Fenerbahce's defence.
The Hungarian midfielder also failed to make an impact with a free kick in the 54th minute, which was comfortably gathered by the goalkeeper.
His final corner during stoppage time also produced no threat, making his overall performance disappointing for a Liverpool side that needed greater creativity and quality.
4. Bradley Barcola
Bradley Barcola endured a frustrating outing, failing to convert the opportunities that came his way against the Turkish opponents.
The forward missed a good chance in the 37th minute when he connected with Victor Munoz's cross but directed his header narrowly beyond the right post.
His positioning also caused problems, as he was caught offside repeatedly, including in the 78th minute. Despite making attempts to trouble Fenerbahce's defenders, his inability to finish accurately and maintain the correct positioning limited his influence on the match.
