Man United stars 'booed' on train to face Chelsea as Michael Carrick feelings clear

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Friday October 30, 2026, Manchester United players were reportedly booed by fellow passengers during their train journey to London ahead of their Premier League clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

United manager Michael Carrick, alongside the club's coaching staff and players, travelled from Stockport on Friday afternoon in preparation for the 12:30pm kick-off at Stamford Bridge.

However, their journey was delayed after traffic congestion affected their arrival at the station.

According to reports from The Overlap, the train had already departed from Manchester Piccadilly but was forced to wait approximately seven minutes to allow the Manchester United delegation to boar.

When the players eventually boarded, some were reportedly met with boos from fellow passengers.

Interestingly, Carrick received cheers, highlighting the contrasting reactions towards the manager and his players.

A similar situation occurred following Manchester United's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford last Sunday.

While frustrated supporters booed the players after the defeat, they continued singing Carrick's name as he left the pitch.

The result increased pressure on the United manager, with the club reportedly considering his future after the team extended its winless run to eight matches, with just one Premier League victory this season.

Despite the disappointing results, Manchester United's decision-makers have opted to keep Carrick in charge, although uncertainty remains over how long he will retain his position.

Speaking ahead of the Chelsea encounter, Carrick insisted that he did not need assurances from the club's hierarchy about his future.

"I don't need any assurances from anyone. I totally get the position. I understand the job. I understand the responsibilities. I understand what comes with that. So, I really don't need any assurances from anyone in that regard," he said.

The 45-year-old also explained that he does not pay much attention to the criticism surrounding him, although he admitted that the opinions of supporters remain important.

Carrick stressed that his main concern is improving Manchester United's performances and giving supporters something to be proud of.

He added that he cares about what fans experience inside the stadium, their commitment to travelling for away matches and what the team offers them on the pitch.

The United manager will now hope his players can respond positively against Chelsea and secure a much-needed victory to ease the pressure surrounding the club.
