According to a report by PUNCH on October 27, 2026, Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has urged Panathinaikos to improve their game management following their narrow 1-0 victory over Volos in the Greek Super League.
Dessers scored the decisive goal in the second half after receiving a layoff from Andrews Tetteh. The Nigerian forward calmly finished the opportunity to secure all three points for Panathinaikos, although he believes the team still has areas that require improvement.
The former Rangers striker expressed satisfaction with his team's overall performance but emphasised the need to manage matches more effectively. He explained that Panathinaikos should take their chances earlier instead of allowing their opponents to regain confidence and threaten their advantage.
Dessers also dismissed fatigue as an excuse for the period when his team temporarily lost control of the encounter. According to the Belgium-born forward, the players were physically prepared and controlled proceedings for most of the match.
Speaking about the team's performance, Dessers said: “Those were not excuses. We were in control of the game for most of it. Only in one part in the second half did we lose control, we allowed our opponent to become more dangerous."
The Super Eagles attacker further stressed that Panathinaikos needed to make better decisions during such moments. He believes the team must learn to settle matches earlier and prevent opponents from creating dangerous opportunities.
Dessers also acknowledged Tetteh's contribution to the winning goal, praising the forward's individual effort and delivery. He expressed happiness with his movement and finishing, which ultimately proved decisive in securing the victory.
However, the striker admitted that his understanding with his teammates was still developing because he had played only a few matches alongside them. Despite this, he remains optimistic that their partnership will improve as they spend more time together on the pitch.
Dessers believes better combinations around the penalty area could strengthen Panathinaikos' attacking threat and make it more difficult for opposing defenders to contain their forwards.
The Nigerian international has enjoyed an encouraging return since recovering from an injury sustained at the beginning of the campaign. He will now be hoping to maintain his scoring form and contribute more goals as Panathinaikos continue their domestic and European campaigns.
