According to a report by the Evening Standard on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, when Chelsea and Liverpool meet at Anfield on Wednesday nite for the Carabao Cup, Chelsea is likely to make multiple lineup changes.
As a result of injuries to captain Reece James and other important players, as well as star striker Joao Pedro's thigh, the Blues will be without a few key players for the match.
Joao Pedro will likely miss a number of weeks of action following his injury, according to Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso. Because of his absence from last weekend's loss to Tottenham, the Brazilian forward will not be available for Chelsea's upcoming matches.
It is anticipated that Danny Welbeck will spearhead Chelsea's assault against Liverpool in the absence of Joao Pedro. As Alonso aims for a more aggressive offensive performance at Anfield, Welbeck has been named to the matchday roster and is anticipated to start.
Against Tottenham, the manager tried playing Morgan Rogers in a more central striker role, but it didn't work out. That being the case, Rogers will likely play in one of the two attacking midfield positions, where he is most at home.
Alonso has already confirmed that the young Brazilian will be playing for the team, so Estevao can make his starting lineup return as well. Behind Welbeck, the winger could run with Rogers.
Moises Caicedo should keep his starting spot in the middle of the field, and Jordan Henderson could be replaced by Romeo Lavia. Henderson is likely to sit out Chelsea's match against Liverpool after starting and playing the entire match in Chelsea's previous three matches.
Alterations to the defense force are also possible. Axl Disasi and Levi Colwill will round out the defensive unit, with Wesley Fofana likely moving into the back three.
In spite of his costly error against Tottenham, Mike Penders is likely to keep his starting spot. In the absence of Emi Martinez, Alonso has persisted in supporting the goalkeeper.
With Pep Chavarria's availability still uncertain due to an injury concern, Malo Gusto and Marco Palestra could start at wing-back.
After Alonso confirmed that Emmanuel Emegha would be in the matchday squad, Chelsea will also have the striker at their disposal. It is not anticipated, though, that he will make an immediate debut.
Jamie Gittens is still out with a knee injury, and Reece James is still out with a knee injury. For the cup match, Cole Palmer will not be able to play.
The predicted Chelsea XI is therefore Mike Penders; Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana; Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Marco Palestra; Morgan Rogers, Estevao; Danny Welbeck.
Chelsea will be hoping the changes help them secure a much-needed victory at Anfield, with Alonso also having to consider Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester United when managing his squad.
