According to a report by London Evening Standard on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Manchester United could receive a double injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Sunday at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick hoping to maintain the momentum from their recent success.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways on Tuesday after coming from behind to secure an entertaining 3-2 victory over Roma in the Champions League. The result was particularly important for Carrick, whose position had come under increasing pressure following the club's poor run of performances.
Matheus Cunha played a decisive role in the comeback by scoring twice late in the encounter, while Bruno Fernandes also found the back of the net from the penalty spot in the second half.
United's disappointing start to their Premier League campaign had seen them drop to 17th position on the table. However, their European victory has provided some much-needed confidence ahead of Sunday's difficult assignment.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu are both in contention to return to action against Aston Villa. Rashford has been recovering from a hip injury, while Dorgu has returned to training after suffering a hamstring problem while representing his country.
Dorgu's possible return would give Carrick another option at left-back, particularly after Diogo Dalot was deployed in that position in recent matches.
Nevertheless, Manchester United will be without Lisandro Martinez, who is suspended following the red card he received during their defeat to Chelsea.
Senne Lammens is expected to retain his place between the posts, with Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Ayden Heaven and Dalot among the defenders likely to feature. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are also available as alternative defensive options.
In the middle of the park, Carlos Baleba remains doubtful after picking up a hamstring injury during the Roma encounter. Kobbie Mainoo is expected to keep his place, while Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are possible candidates to partner him.
Bruno Fernandes is likely to operate in the attacking midfield position as captain, with Amad Diallo expected to feature on the right wing. Cunha could continue on the opposite side, although Rashford might have to settle for a place among the substitutes if he returns.
Bryan Mbeumo is expected to lead United's attack, with Benjamin Sesko still sidelined by a shin injury and not anticipated to return until the new year.
Predicted Manchester United Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Heaven, Dalot; Tielemans, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo.
