MUN vs BOU: How Manchester United Could Line Up With Fernandes Back In His Preferred Role

According to a report by the Evening Standard on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Manchester United could line up with Senne Lammens in goal and Joshua Zirkzee leading the attack when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

Michael Carrick is expected to make changes to his starting XI as United seek to end their seven-match winless run across all competitions following a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.

Lammens is predicted to retain his place between the posts, with Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui forming the defensive line.

Yoro is available again after serving a European suspension and could immediately return to the starting lineup. The French defender had started every match following the autumn international break before missing the Como defeat.

Yoro could partner Maguire in central defence, with Matthijs de Ligt potentially dropping to the bench after looking rusty during his first start in almost a year.

In midfield, Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans are predicted to operate in a double pivot, providing support for the attacking players while helping United maintain greater control of the game.

Bruno Fernandes could return to his natural No. 10 position after being deployed as a false nine against Leeds and Como. The United captain is expected to play behind the striker, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad occupying the wide attacking positions.

Zirkzee could lead the line after scoring United’s consolation goal as a substitute against Como. The Netherlands international may be rewarded with a rare Premier League start following Matheus Cunha’s ineffective first-half performance in Italy, which resulted in his substitution at the interval.

United remain uncertain about the availability of several players ahead of the encounter. Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford and Ayden Heaven are doubts after missing the Como match, with Carrick expected to provide further updates during his Friday press conference.

Kobbie Mainoo is still around a week away from returning from the knock that has sidelined him since the draw with Tottenham. Luke Shaw, Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte are also expected to miss the Bournemouth fixture.

Manchester United’s predicted starting lineup is Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Mazraoui; Baleba, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Amad; Zirkzee.

The Premier League encounter will take place at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm GMT.
