According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Nigeria's Super Eagles have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania after winger Samuel Chukwueze underwent successful surgery on his left hip.

AC Milan confirmed on Wednesday that the 27-year-old Nigerian international had undergone an operation in London to repair a ruptured tendon of the tensor fasciae latae muscle in his left hip.

The Italian club announced that the surgery was a complete success. The procedure was performed by Professor Ernest Schilders in the presence of AC Milan's doctor, Dr Stefano Mazzoni.

Chukwueze is expected to return to Italy, where he will begin his rehabilitation programme as he works towards recovering from the injury.

However, his absence represents a significant blow to Nigeria ahead of their upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifying encounter against Tanzania scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026.

The Super Eagles will now have to prepare for the important fixture without the former Villarreal winger, who brings pace, creativity and attacking quality to the team's forward line.

Chukwueze's injury is also a setback for AC Milan, as the winger will miss the club's Europa League encounter against Ferencváros on Thursday.

The Nigerian sustained the injury last month during preparations for AC Milan's European fixture against Bournemouth.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Premier League side Fulham before returning to AC Milan in the summer.
