According to a report published by Flashscore on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Chelsea went into the half-time break with the score tied at 1-1 in their Carabao Cup fourth-round match against Liverpool at Anfield. Wesley Fofana’s handball inside the penalty area proved costly, as it enabled Liverpool to equalise from the spot.
Morgan Rogers had initially given Chelsea the advantage, but several players failed to deliver convincing performances during a first half filled with action.
1. Wesley Fofana
Wesley Fofana was among Chelsea’s biggest disappointments in the first half after committing a costly handball inside his own penalty area. The incident gave Liverpool a penalty, which Cody Gakpo converted in the 43rd minute to restore parity.
The timing of the mistake made it even more damaging, as Chelsea had moved ahead only three minutes earlier. Fofana’s error allowed Liverpool to draw level and undermined Chelsea’s efforts to maintain their advantage before the interval.
2. Moises Caicedo
Moises Caicedo was unable to make his attacking contributions count during the opening half. His long-range volley in the 22nd minute lacked accuracy and sailed comfortably wide of the left post.
The midfielder showed greater composure in the 29th minute when he attempted to find Josh Acheampong with a well-weighted through ball. However, Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili read the situation correctly and stopped the move before it could develop into a dangerous opportunity.
3. Pedro Neto
Pedro Neto struggled to cause significant problems for Liverpool’s backline during the first half. Five minutes into the match, the winger attempted to pick out Danny Welbeck with a low pass from outside the penalty area, but Liverpool’s defence intercepted the ball before Welbeck could attempt a shot.
A minute later, Neto committed a foul that handed Liverpool a free kick. He produced a more encouraging moment in the 37th minute by dribbling past several opponents, but his run eventually ended when a Liverpool defender won possession back.
4. Morgan Rogers
Morgan Rogers found the back of the net for Chelsea but still had several moments of frustration before half-time. The forward was flagged offside in the 26th minute, disrupting an attacking move, before delivering an inaccurate cross nine minutes later that failed to reach a teammate.
He redeemed himself to some extent by winning and converting a penalty in the 40th minute. However, his earlier errors and inconsistent decision-making in the final third meant that his overall performance was not entirely convincing despite his goal.
