According to a report by Football London on Sunday November 1, 2026, even though the Ecuadorian international had a quiet game against Manchester United, his Chelsea teammates Romeo Lavia and Jordan Henderson spoke highly of him, praising him as a world-class player.
On Saturday, Chelsea got back on track with a 2-0 win at home against Stamford Bridge. Following back-to-back losses to Tottenham and Liverpool, Xabi Alonso was able to alleviate some of the pressure with some outstanding performances from a number of players.
Alonso started Lavia in place of Henderson because the latter was unable to play due to illness for the Manchester United match. The Belgian midfielder, who had not made a Chelsea starting lineup since before the international break, and Caicedo put in sensational performances.
While Caicedo and Henderson have formed a solid midfield partnership for Chelsea, Lavia may have been the star player in the win against Michael Carrick's underperforming team.
Caicedo put in a consistent effort, although he didn't get as much credit as his teammates Morgan Rogers, Estevao, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill, and goalkeeper Mike Penders.
Henderson emphasized the significance of building a solid rapport with Caicedo and praised the Ecuadorian's extraordinary talents in Chelsea's matchday program prior to the game.
"He's a world-class midfielder, probably one of the best in the world in his position," Henderson gushed about his teammate, praising his ability.
Having a good rapport with Caicedo was crucial, the seasoned midfielder said, adding that Caicedo was an amazing player who made playing with him a lot easier.
Following the final whistle, Lavia echoed these feelings, praising the mutual understanding and cooperation between the two.
Lavia exclaimed, "Moi is a world-class player, and I'm very happy to be playing alongside him." She went on to hail Caicedo's quality and their growing midfield connection.
Having said that, Caicedo did not exactly shine for Chelsea in their match against United. Lavia had a standout performance, assisting with midfield control, making accurate passes, and routinely intercepting opposition attacks.
As evidence of his defensive awareness and offensive prowess, the Belgian set up Rogers for the opening goal after regaining possession.
In terms of distance traveled, Caicedo ranked joint-seventh among Chelsea players, covering about 9.5 kilometers. His performance may have been impacted by exhaustion after playing against Liverpool earlier in the week.
Ten duels were fought by him; he won six, lost four, and made four defensive contributions. With 23 defensive contributions for the match, Lavia far surpassed him in that regard.
But Caicedo kept up a remarkable level of passing accuracy, finishing 95% of his passes, which allowed Chelsea to keep the ball well.
He was ninth on Chelsea's starting lineup, despite having a respectable FotMob rating of 7.2.
Despite playing more quietly, Caicedo is still highly regarded by his teammates and is an integral part of Chelsea's midfield. This is especially true in light of Lavia's impactful performance.
