According to a report by Metro on Tuesday October 27, 2026, Harry Kane could be in line for a knighthood after becoming the first Englishman in 25 years to win the Ballon d’Or.
The Bayern Munich striker was crowned the world’s best male footballer at the ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday night, ending England’s long wait for the prestigious individual award.
Kane received congratulations from the British Prime Minister following his historic achievement, with Downing Street describing his success as “extraordinary”.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister also praised the England captain for setting “a brilliant example to young players across the country”.
Asked whether the 33-year-old could receive a knighthood, the spokesperson stopped short of confirming any plans.
“Everyone would agree, Harry Kane has given an enormous amount to English football, and this is a very special moment for him in the country,” the spokesperson said.
“But as ever, I’m not going to pre-empt the honours process.”
The spokesperson also expressed hope that Kane would enjoy further success with the England national team, adding: “Hopefully, there’s another trophy to celebrate with England before too long.”
Kane enjoyed an outstanding 2025–26 season, scoring 73 goals for club and country, winning two trophies with Bayern Munich and helping England finish third at the World Cup.
His Ballon d’Or victory saw him finish ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, who came second, and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, who finished third.
Brazilian football legend Ronaldo announced Kane as the winner during the ceremony, leaving the England captain overwhelmed as he collected the award from one of his childhood idols.
“My heart was beating fast and I was just hoping he would say my name,” Kane said.
“Ronaldo was one of my idols growing up, so for him to be the one to present me the award, it’s a dream come true.”
England manager Thomas Tuchel was also among those to congratulate the striker, praising his performances and leadership.
Tuchel said he had “run out of superlatives” to describe Kane before highlighting the significance of becoming the first Englishman in 25 years to win the award.
However, despite growing speculation about a possible knighthood, Downing Street has yet to confirm whether Kane will be considered for the honour.
