According to reports by TEAMtalk on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Manchester United have been handed a major opportunity to sign Manchester City defender Rayan Ait-Nouri ahead of the January transfer window, with the Algerian international reportedly determined to secure an exit from the Etihad Stadium.
The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their left-back position, and Ait-Nouri has emerged as one of the players being considered by the club. His situation at Manchester City could make a January transfer possible, although negotiations between the two Manchester rivals may present a significant challenge.
Manchester City signed the 25-year-old from Wolverhampton Wanderers for approximately £31 million during the summer of 2025. However, the defender has struggled to establish himself as a regular member of Pep Guardiola's team and has reportedly found playing opportunities limited.
His lack of regular football has increased speculation about his future, with Manchester United previously showing interest in bringing him to Old Trafford.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, United remain interested in the defender, while personal terms are not expected to be a major obstacle.
Plettenberg stated in a post on X that Ait-Nouri is open to leaving Manchester City and that United would like to sign him.
“Personal terms are not an issue,” the journalist explained, while identifying the relationship between the two Manchester clubs as the main complication.
This means that although the player's willingness to consider a move could help United, an agreement between the clubs would still need to be reached before the transfer can happen.
The latest development has increased the possibility of Ait-Nouri leaving City during the January window. Journalist Nabil Djellit has also suggested that a dramatic turnaround would be required for the defender to remain at the Etihad beyond the winter transfer window.
According to the report, Ait-Nouri and his representatives are doing everything possible to secure a move away from Manchester City.
Manchester United are understood to be prioritising the signing of a new left-back ahead of January, with Barcelona's Alejandro Balde also mentioned as a possible target.
However, Ait-Nouri could represent a more affordable option for the Red Devils, particularly if Manchester City become willing to negotiate his departure.
The defender's attacking qualities and experience in English football could make him an attractive addition to United's squad. His ability to operate as a left-back and contribute going forward could also provide another option for the club.
