Paul Scholes names 2 star players Man United must get rid of immediately

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has identified Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez as two players he would sell from the club’s current squad following controversial remarks attributed to both footballers.

According to a report by Sky Sports on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Scholes made his position known during an appearance on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, where presenter Paddy McGuinness asked him how many players he would remove from the Manchester United team.

Scholes singled out Fernandes after the Portuguese midfielder reportedly questioned Michael Carrick’s tactics following Manchester United’s heavy defeat to Como last week.

“Well, from what Bruno Fernandes did last week, I think that was unforgivable. So Bruno’s one,” Scholes said.

The former United midfielder also included Argentine defender Martinez on his list after the player reportedly made comments about the club’s hierarchy following their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Explaining his position, Scholes said, “I’m not saying it’s wrong what he said, but it’s not his business. That is nothing to do with you.”

Fernandes’ reported criticism of Carrick has added to the scrutiny surrounding Manchester United’s recent performances. The midfielder was subsequently left on the bench for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth and did not feature during the match.

United suffered another setback, losing 3-0 at Old Trafford. The result extended their winless run in all competitions to eight matches and left them 16th in the Premier League standings, just one point above the relegation zone.

The disappointing run has increased pressure on Carrick, with reports suggesting that the club is considering possible alternatives should a managerial change become necessary.

Former United captain Gary Neville has also expressed concern about Carrick’s position, while Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have reportedly emerged as potential candidates for the role.

Manchester United are expected to seek a response when they travel to face Chelsea on Saturday. The fixture presents Carrick with an opportunity to address growing concerns about the team’s performances and improve the club’s position in the league.

Scholes’ comments have added another dimension to the debate surrounding the squad, particularly over player conduct, dressing-room relationships and the responsibility of senior footballers during a difficult period.
