Manchester United Make Decision on Sacking Michael Carrick Before Sunday Match Against Bournemouth

According to a report by Metro on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Manchester United have decided to keep Michael Carrick in charge for Sunday's Premier League match against Bournemouth despite the growing pressure on the manager following his team's disappointing results this season.

Carrick's position has come under serious discussion after United suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday night, with the result adding to the frustration surrounding the club after another poor performance from the players.

Manchester United have collected just seven points from their first seven Premier League matches, with their only victory coming against newly promoted Ipswich Town in August. Their poor form has raised concerns among supporters, but the club are not planning to sack Carrick before the Bournemouth encounter.

Reports suggest that things remain normal at Old Trafford ahead of Sunday's game, meaning Carrick will have another opportunity to improve the team's performance and give the club a reason to continue backing him. However, the pressure is not expected to disappear unless United begin to produce better results.

Although the manager is set to remain in charge for now, Manchester United have reportedly started looking at possible replacements in case they decide to make a change in the coming weeks.

Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is one of the names being mentioned as a possible candidate, with reports suggesting that he could be interested in taking the job if it becomes available.

Antonio Conte has also been linked with the position, as the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss is reportedly keen on managing Manchester United. However, concerns have been raised about whether his strong personality and demanding approach would fit the structure the club wants to establish.

For now, Carrick's immediate task is to prepare his players for the visit of Bournemouth, knowing that another disappointing result could increase calls for his departure. A victory, on the other hand, would give him some breathing space as he attempts to turn United's difficult season around.
