According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos have been rewarded with $50,000 following their historic triumph at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The cash reward was presented on Saturday night by Alhaji Saleh Ahmadu, a sponsor of the National Sports Commission (NSC), during a special reception organised to celebrate the team's achievement.
The event was held in recognition of the players' outstanding performance and their contribution to Nigerian football.
Among the notable personalities who attended the reception were NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, Director-General Bukola Olopade, and Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Their attendance showed the importance of the Flamingos' achievement and the pride their victory has brought to the country.
Nigeria made history in Morocco by winning the competition for the first time. The young Nigerian side defeated Japan 2–1 in Saturday night's final in Rabat to secure the trophy and complete an impressive campaign.
The victory marked a major achievement for the players, who proudly represented Nigeria and delivered a memorable result for the country's women's football.
The $50,000 cash reward is among the first recognitions the team has received for their success. More rewards are also expected to follow as the country continues to celebrate their historic achievement.
The Flamingos' triumph represents an important moment for Nigerian women's football. Their success has highlighted the talent, hard work and determination of the young players while giving Nigerians another reason to celebrate their country's achievements in international football.
Their historic victory could also encourage more young girls across the country to take up football and work towards representing Nigeria at the highest level.
By lifting their first U-17 Women's World Cup trophy in Morocco, the Flamingos have written a new chapter in Nigerian football history.
