According to a report from Daily Post Nigeria, on Sunday October 25, 2024, Barcelona captain Raphinha has offered a glowing assessment of teammate Lamine Yamal, calling the young forward the best player in the world at present.

In his view, Yamal’s performances have put him clearly ahead of the competition.

Speaking to CazeTV, Raphinha said he sees little room for disagreement over Yamal’s status. “Lamine is proving that he is the best player in the world right now,” he said. The Brazilian added that, in his opinion, there is a considerable distance between Yamal and whoever ranks second.

Yamal first attracted widespread attention after breaking into Barcelona’s senior team in 2023 under then-manager Xavi Hernández. He has since developed into one of the club’s most influential players, while also becoming an important figure for Spain.

At 19, Yamal is already being discussed among the leading candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The ceremony is scheduled to take place in London on Monday. Raphinha’s praise adds to the spotlight on his teammate as the award approaches, although the final decision will rest with the voters.

His comments also underline the high expectations surrounding Yamal’s career. While individual awards are decided by performances across a wider period, Raphinha believes the young star’s current form makes him the standout player in world football.
