Arsenal Backed to Retain Premier League Title as Liverpool and Man City Face Fresh Questions

According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, Arsenal have been backed to retain the Premier League title after their impressive victory over Liverpool strengthened their position at the top of the table.

Podcast hosts Tom Canton and John Cross believe Mikel Arteta's side are now clear favourites to win consecutive league titles for the first time since the 1930s.

The Gunners moved three points clear at the top following their victory at Anfield, opening a nine-point gap over Liverpool, who were expected to be among their biggest challengers this season.

Arsenal have also made an impressive start defensively, recording six clean sheets in their opening nine league matches while winning eight of those fixtures.

Speaking on the Seeing Red podcast, Cross suggested that Arsenal's consistency had made them difficult to challenge, although he warned against getting carried away so early in the campaign.

Manchester City's uncertain situation has also added another dimension to the title race, with ongoing questions surrounding the club's financial case and potential punishment.

Cross suggested that the uncertainty could affect City's players psychologically, particularly with important matches approaching.

He also highlighted the possibility that the situation could influence their performances against Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Brighton have emerged as potential challengers, although Cross believes the Blues could eventually finish above the Seagulls.

He identified Chelsea's midfield depth, defensive problems and goalkeeping situation as areas that could prevent them from mounting a sustained title challenge.

However, he believes their attacking quality could make them a serious force once their forward players are fully settled.

Liverpool's nine-point deficit was another concern, with Cross suggesting that Arsenal's advantage could prove difficult for Arne Slot's side to overcome.

Despite the early stage of the season, the discussion highlighted Arsenal's growing position as the team to beat.

With Manchester City's situation still unresolved and Liverpool already trailing significantly, Arteta's side have an opportunity to strengthen their grip on the title race and move closer to achieving another historic Premier League triumph.
