According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Barcelona are monitoring Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi as sporting director Deco evaluates potential signings ahead of the next summer transfer window. However, the Spanish giants could face competition from Bayern Munich, who are also interested in securing the services of the highly rated Swiss international.
According to Spanish publication MARCA, the 21-year-old has attracted attention from several major European clubs following his impressive performances since joining Aston Villa. Despite the growing interest, completing a transfer could prove difficult because of the significant investment the Premier League side made to secure his signature.
Bayern Munich have reportedly followed Manzambi’s development since his time at Freiburg and are continuing to assess his progress. Aston Villa are understood to have paid €60 million to sign the midfielder during the summer, meaning the club may demand a substantial fee before considering his departure.
Interest in the young midfielder has continued to increase, with scouts from leading European teams impressed by his performances and long-term potential. English journalist Graeme Bailey, quoted by MARCA, highlighted the growing attention surrounding the Swiss international.
"We know that scouts from some of Europe's top clubs have been very impressed by Manzambi’s performances," Bailey said, pointing to the level of interest generated by the midfielder.
The journalist also indicated that some observers believe Manzambi could develop into a future superstar. Several clubs are reportedly assessing his progress and considering whether he could become an important addition to their squads in the coming years.
Manzambi’s attacking contributions have helped strengthen his reputation this season. He has recorded three goals and three assists in six appearances, demonstrating his ability to contribute offensively rather than focusing solely on controlling possession and supporting defensive duties.
Despite Barcelona’s interest, a transfer is not guaranteed. Aston Villa’s substantial spending on the midfielder means negotiations could be complicated, particularly if the Spanish club faces financial restrictions when planning its summer recruitment.
Reports suggest Manzambi is not currently an immediate priority for Barcelona but remains a potential target for next summer. His future could depend on the club’s available transfer budget, possible departures from the existing squad and its assessment of his continued development.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping their options open ahead of future transfer windows. Manzambi is said to prefer remaining at Aston Villa for now, where he can continue developing under manager Unai Emery. This makes a January departure appear unlikely.
With his reported valuation standing at approximately €65 million, Barcelona could face an expensive pursuit. Ultimately, their chances of signing him will depend on Aston Villa’s willingness to negotiate and whether they can compete financially with Bayern Munich.
