According to a report by Essential Football on Wednesday November 4, 2026, After eight matches, Arsenal and Manchester City have emerged as the leading title contenders, while Brighton have made an eye-catching start.
Liverpool remain in the mix, and Chelsea are hoping to climb the table under Xabi Alonso. But with much of the season still to come, the current standings are only part of the picture.
Opta Analyst’s Supercomputer looks beyond the table, simulating the remaining fixtures to estimate each club’s chances of winning the title and finishing in different positions.
Its latest forecast gives Arsenal the edge but Brighton’s strong form and Manchester United’s struggles add intrigue to the race.
Arsenal have a 57.65% chance of winning the title, according to the model. Manchester City are their closest challengers at 31.05%. Both teams have earned 21 points from eight matches, with seven wins and one defeat apiece.
City have scored 20 goals, including nine from league-leading scorer Erling Haaland. Arsenal, meanwhile, have conceded just five the fewest among the leading contenders.
City’s recent 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa ended a seven-match winning run and gave the title race a fresh talking point. Opta’s projections, however, still place Arsenal firmly ahead.
Liverpool have a 4.75% title chance, with Brighton close behind at 3.86%. Brighton have collected 16 points and boast a goal difference of +16, making them one of the season’s most compelling early stories.
Chelsea are given a 0.93% chance of lifting the trophy, followed by Aston Villa at 0.80%. Bournemouth, Brentford, Newcastle United and Leeds United each remain below 0.3%.
Those figures reflect the scale of the challenge facing clubs outside the favourites. Still, Brighton’s results and attacking numbers suggest they should not be dismissed.
Manchester United, by contrast, sit 16th with seven points after eight games and have gone six matches without a win under Michael Carrick.
The figures provided do not specify the Supercomputer’s projected finishing position for United, but their poor start has put pressure on the team to respond.
The next round brings several important tests: Liverpool host Arsenal, Manchester City face Brighton, and United travel to Chelsea. The results could reshape the conversation around both the title contenders and the teams trying to recover from slow starts.
Opta’s model combines team-strength ratings with betting-market odds to estimate match outcomes, then simulates the remaining fixtures thousands of times.
It offers a forecast rather than a guarantee, and the uncertainty is considerable with so many matches left.
For now, Arsenal and City are the clear favourites. Brighton will aim to prove their fast start can last, while United need wins to halt their slide.
