Nigerian Midfielder Quadri Liameed Hospitalised After Head Injury in Spain

According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed was taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious by a kick to the head during Sabadell’s Spanish second-division match against Albacete.

The incident occurred in the 42nd minute of Saturday’s encounter at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium. Liameed, 24, was challenging for the ball outside the penalty area when Albacete forward José Corpas attempted a volley and struck him in the head.

A video of the collision, which circulated online, showed Liameed collapsing on the pitch and briefly losing consciousness. Medical personnel from both teams immediately attended to him as play was halted.

Liameed was fitted with a neck brace and carried off on a stretcher before being transported by ambulance to Hospital Quirón Santa Cristina for medical examination.

Corpas was shown a straight red card for the challenge, according to reports. The match was stopped for about nine minutes while Liameed received treatment and was taken from the field.

Sabadell later provided an update on the midfielder’s condition, confirming that he was conscious and undergoing medical examinations. The club described the initial test results as positive.

The incident prompted concern among players and supporters, with medical staff taking precautions before moving Liameed.

The neck brace was used as he was stretchered from the pitch, and he was taken to hospital for further assessment.

The match between Sabadell and Albacete continued after the stoppage. No further details about Liameed’s diagnosis or how long he might be unavailable were included in the information released by the club.

Liameed’s injury occurred during a contested play in which both players went for the ball. Corpas’s attempt to make contact with the ball resulted in him striking the Nigerian midfielder, who went down immediately.

Sabadell’s update that Liameed was conscious and that the initial examination results were positive offered some reassurance following the collision.

However, the player remained under medical assessment at the hospital.

The midfielder’s condition and recovery timeline were not specified in the club’s statement.

Further information would be needed from Sabadell or medical staff to establish the full extent of the injury.
