Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly submitted his list of selected players for Nigeria’s upcoming double-header against Tanzania in the qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the Franco-Malian manager has maintained several members of his previous squad while welcoming back Victor Osimhen, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Tochukwu Nnadi. The trio missed the previous round of matches due to injuries and fitness-related concerns.
Nigeria are scheduled to play Tanzania twice in Group L, with the Super Eagles hosting the Taifa Stars on November 13 before travelling for the return encounter on November 17. Both matches are important as the Nigerian team attempts to strengthen its chances of qualifying for the continental competition.
Osimhen’s return is expected to provide a significant boost to Nigeria’s attacking department. The Galatasaray forward remains one of the country’s most dependable goalscorers, and his availability could improve the team’s ability to convert chances. Meanwhile, Dele-Bashiru and Nnadi are expected to offer additional alternatives in midfield.
The Super Eagles started their qualifying campaign positively, defeating Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo on September 25. However, their progress suffered a setback four days later when they lost 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau away from home.
The disappointing defeat placed additional pressure on Chelle to improve the team’s performances and restore confidence among the players before the next qualifying fixtures.
Nigeria’s latest squad submission also follows their 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly played on October 6. The Super Eagles demonstrated resilience by coming back from two goals behind, with Kelechi Iheanacho, Peter Edokpolor and Akor Adams scoring during the encounter.
With the Tanzania matches approaching, Chelle will be hoping that the returning players can strengthen the squad and help Nigeria secure positive results in both games.
