According to a report by ESPN on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have secured a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, where they will meet Japan after both nations emerged victorious from their respective semi-final encounters in Morocco.
The final showdown between Nigeria and Japan will take place on Saturday, November 7, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. The encounter is expected to kick off at 6:30 pm GMT, which is 7:30 pm Nigerian time.
Nigeria qualified for the final in spectacular fashion after defeating Brazil 3-1 in an entertaining semi-final contest. The Flamingos showed their quality after the break, with Queen Joseph opening the scoring in the 56th minute to put the Nigerian team ahead.
Awawu Bashiru subsequently took centre stage, delivering an outstanding performance by finding the back of the net twice. She extended Nigeria's advantage in the 71st minute before scoring her second goal of the match in the 80th minute. Her impressive contribution helped the Flamingos establish a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Brazil managed to reduce the deficit through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, but it was too late to prevent Nigeria from recording a convincing victory and advancing to the final.
Meanwhile, Japan earned their place in the championship match after overcoming defending champions DPR Korea in a dramatic penalty shootout. Japan initially fell behind in the 52nd minute but rescued the contest with a late equaliser in the 90+5th minute. They eventually triumphed 4-1 in the penalty shootout.
The result means Nigeria and Japan will now battle for the prestigious trophy on Saturday, with both countries just one victory away from becoming world champions.
For Nigeria, reaching the final represents a remarkable achievement in the history of the Flamingos. The country previously secured third place in the 2022 edition, but this year's team has gone a step further by reaching the final for the first time.
The upcoming encounter against Japan will therefore present Nigeria with a golden opportunity to make history by winning their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title.
