Arsenal claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, producing a disciplined performance to secure a valuable three points in the Premier League.
According to BBC Sport, Kai Havertz proved to be the difference between the sides after finding the net in the first half, rewarding Arsenal for an effective attacking move and a solid defensive display.
Liverpool started brightly and attempted to put the visitors under pressure from the opening minutes. However, David Raya quickly demonstrated his importance by making an early save to deny Bradley Barcola as Arsenal worked to maintain their defensive shape.
The Gunners eventually took the lead in the 16th minute. Declan Rice delivered an excellent pass into the penalty area, where Havertz controlled the ball before finishing from close range to give the visitors the advantage.
Liverpool responded by searching for an equaliser through Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister, but Arsenal remained difficult to break down. Raya was called upon to make further interventions, while Florian Wirtz came close to restoring parity when his free-kick struck the crossbar.
The hosts also appealed for a penalty after Gakpo went down inside the Arsenal box. However, referee Andy Madley rejected the claim following a VAR review, allowing the visitors to preserve their lead.
Liverpool increased their possession after the restart and pushed forward in search of a goal. Isak sent an effort over the crossbar, while Wirtz saw another attempt blocked by Arsenal’s defence.
Despite spending much of the second half under pressure, Arsenal still threatened on the counterattack. Noni Madueke and Jurrien Timber contributed to their attacking efforts, while Christos Tzolis came close to doubling the lead. His attempt was denied by an excellent reflex save from Alisson.
Liverpool continued to search for an equaliser as the match approached its conclusion, but Arsenal’s defensive organisation prevented the home side from creating a decisive opportunity.
The hosts were also unable to find a breakthrough during seven minutes of added time, allowing Arsenal to hold on for an important away win at Anfield.
