Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Rodri will miss upcoming matches after sustaining a thigh injury during Tuesday’s Champions League encounter against Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old was forced off at half-time after experiencing muscular discomfort, with Marc Bernal replacing him for the second period.
Following medical examinations, Barcelona announced that the midfielder had suffered a minor injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his right leg.
The club confirmed: “First-team player Rodrigo Hernández has undergone medical tests following the muscle discomfort he experienced during yesterday’s match against Aston Villa.
“The tests confirm that he is suffering from a minor injury to the biceps femoris of his right leg.”
Barcelona also confirmed that Rodri would miss Sunday’s La Liga meeting with Atletico Madrid, adding that his recovery timeline would depend on his progress.
However, according to Carlos Monfort of SPORT, as reported by Barca Universal, the midfielder could remain sidelined for approximately four weeks.
That would potentially rule him out of Spain’s upcoming international fixtures and Barcelona’s league return against Villarreal on November 22.
He is also expected to miss the Champions League meeting with Sabah and domestic matches against Deportivo de A Coruna and Celta Vigo.
His possible absence against Manchester City could prove another concern for Hansi Flick.
Marc Bernal and Frenkie de Jong are among the leading candidates to fill the midfield vacancy, while Gavi also remains an option.
Rodri has made 14 appearances in all competitions since arriving, establishing himself as an important figure in Barcelona’s midfield.
